Political Footballs Being Kicked About on Air

23/03/2007
There must be an election looming.......not because Chancellor, Gordon Brown, is apparently giving away cash in his Budget, but rather because Labour politicians are muscling onto radio football phone-ins.

First Minister, Jack McConnell, was the special guest on Real Radio's Football phone-in with Ewan Cameron and Alan Rough on Wednesday night. Clype only caught a few minutes
of it but during which Jack revealed he once sported a Roughie-style perm in honour of the Scotland ‘keeper.

The First Minister also had the benefit of being on a commercial radio station with frequent ad breaks, a handy device when callers pose tough questions, such as: "Do you think the Irish national anthem's a sectarian song." Cue the immortal, "We'll be right back after this break".

Justice Minister, Cathy Jamieson, won't have that luxury, however, when she appears on BBC Radio Scotland's Off the Ball tomorrow lunchtime. Still, at least it'll make a change to be on the air in person rather than being lampooned in absentia by the show, Watson's Wind-up, which usually precedes Tam Cowan and Stuart Cosgrove's show.
