Two New Members for Ofcom Scottish Committee

20/04/2007
The Scottish advisory committee for broadcasting regulators, Ofcom, has welcomed two, new members, one of them a former director of a community radio station in Ross-shire.

Bringing the committee membership up to nine are Laura Alexander and Andrew Anderson.

Alexander is a Chartered Electronic Engineer, currently working as an Open University lecturer in the technology faculty. She has previously worked for the MoD, Alenia Marconi,
Aspects Software and Tality. She has previously also served on her local community council.

Andrew Anderson has been an SNP councillor on the Highland Council for 12 years. He will stand down from the council at the upcoming elections next month after chairing the
Education, Culture and Sport Committee and serving on the Gaelic Committee and the Scottish
Parliament's cross-party group on Gaelic. He previously worked for BT and was formerly a director of Ross FM, a community radio station.

Further to these appointments, Philip Schlesinger has been re-appointed to the committee for a further four-year term. He is currently Professor of Cultural Policy at Glasgow University.

Said Vicki Nash, director, Ofcom Scotland: "The advisory committee plays an important role in advising Ofcom on communications matters that affect Scotland.

"Communications in Scotland is undergoing huge change with digital switchover beginning next year. Laura, Andrew and Philip's skills complement those of the existing members of the advisory committee, which will continue to provide Ofcom with advice on key issues for Scottish consumers and citizens.”
