Documentary Airs After Winning Legal Battle

30/05/2007
Tonight, a BBC Scotland documentary airs after having survived a legal challenge to prevent its broadcast - or at least the broadcasting of some of its content.

The programme - The Billion Pound Bank Robbery - involves undercover reporting of gangs infiltrating call centres to steal people's bank details.

But for it to air, the BBC first had to win a legal battle with a call centre featured in the investigation.

But the judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, Lord Bracadale, rejected the call centre's application for an interdict and ruled the programme could be shown.

The call centre then indicated it would appeal the decision and BBC Scotland agreed not to show the programme - on its intended transmission date, earlier this year - while a possible appeal was pending.

However, the deadline set by the Court, for the grounds of appeal to be lodged, lapsed and so BBC Scotland has decided to transmit the documentary - and in its original form.

It is being shown on BBC One, from 7pm.
