A Scottish bi-annual film festival, with moral issues at its core, has just launched its programme.

Next month, the Leith Film Festival returns with nearly twice as many films than during its last outing, two years ago, but with the same sign-off: a competition to make a short film within 24 hours.

International premieres include a documentary about homosexuality and the Anglican Church and another about the lives of non-Muslims in Iran.

Most events at the festival are free to attend, with a small charge being levied for workshops being led by likes of David Attenborough's cameraperson and cinematographer, Mike Fox, and the editor of the BBC's 'Rome' drama series, Colin Goudie.

The festival culminates with its signature 2.4.6.8 film competition - where competitors have just 24 hours to make a film of between six and eight minutes in length.

The festival is taking place between August 6 and 11.
