Film Fest Countdown - At Four
10/08/2007
Now then, now then. The countdown has already begun, towards the opening night of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and allmediascotland.com - in association with national screen agency, Scottish Screen - will be bringing you what it considers to be the top ten Scottish elements of the festival. So, in at number four.....
4 – Scottish Shorts
Says Scottish Screen: "A well-respected cinema programmer once said that a good short film will tell a better story in four minutes than many Hollywood movies can tell in 90. We love short films and the best can be seen as part of the UK Shorts screenings. Look out for Shell, a Scottish road movie by emerging writer/director, Scott Graham, and Dog Altogether, Paddy Considine’s visceral debut behind the camera."
Shell
UK Shorts 1
Public screenings
Sunday 1August 19, 1.15pm, Cameo
Tueday August 21, 5.15pm, Filmhouse 2
Industry screening
Friday August 17, 3.15pm, Cameo 1
Adds Scottish Screen: "Shell is a Scottish road movie, which tells of a girl, Shell, who is in her late teens and trapped. She cares for her elderly father while the world passes by the isolated fuel stop. One day, a salesman stops for petrol and gives her a taste of the world she is missing. Shell is torn between loyalty to her father and her desire to escape. Written and directed by Scott Graham and produced by David Smith, at Broken Spectre."
Dog Altogether
UK Shorts 2
Public screenings
Saturday August 18, 2.00pm, Filmhouse 1
Wednesday August 22, 5.30pm Filmhouse 2
Industry screening
Friday 17 August 17, 12.50pm, Filmhouse 2
Continues Scottish Screen: "Dog Altogether is Paddy Considine’s debut as a writer/director. The main character Joseph (Peter Mullen) is suffocated by life and his environment but finds solace in the simple kindness shown by a charity shop worker, Anita (Olivia Coleman of Peep Show fame). It is a visceral story co-produced by Anna Duffield, of Sigma Fims, and Diarmid Scrimshaw, of Warp Films."
