The editorial judgement of some of the country’s key heads of news is to be tested by an unfolding scenario, being presented to them, live, at this year’s Edinburgh International TV Festival.

The just-announced additional session to this year’s festival programme will see, among others, the editor of the BBC Ten O’Clock News and his counterpart at The Sun Online, tackle the on-going fictional story of a kidnapping in the UK. Their dilemma is that the government has asked for a news blackout, even though aspects of the story are beginning to leak.

Mark Austin (presenter, ITV News) will chair Terror Tapes: Broadcast and be Damned? comprising a panel including Craig Oliver (editor, BBC Ten O'Clock News), Pete Picton (editor, The Sun Online), John Ryley (head of Sky News), Wadah Khanfar (director general, Al Jazeera), and, via video, Matt Drudge (writer, The Drudge Report).
