Scottish Government Appoint New Communications Supremo
20/03/2008
The current head of the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretariat has been appointed as the Scottish Government’s director of communications.
Sarah Davidson takes up her new post at the end of the month. The job, which was advertised internally, carries a salary of between £81,600 and £160,000. allmediascotland understands Davidson will be paid on the lower end of the scale.
In June, seven years ago, Davidson, a career civil servant, was given the task of running the new Holyrood parliament building, as project director. She left the post a month before the building was completed, to travel on a seven-month break.
Davidson replaces Owen Kelly, appointed early last year, who left in December for a job with Scottish Financial Enterprise.
The government’s head of news, Andrew Baird, has meantime been acting as director of communications.

- "See Dorothy-Grace Elder's piece in yesterday's Express: Sarah Davidson has led a charmed life after being in charge of the Holyrood building fiasco.
Costs zoomed from £230 million to £431 million on her watch. Davidson had no building experience. She has no media qualifications either but is now the Scottish Government's Director of Communications. The job was not publicly advertised. Davidson (36) has had two other highly paid Civil Service jobs in the last three years. She was rewarded for her Holyrood stint by being put in charge of overseeing the smoking ban and next became head of the present Cabinet Secretariat. Her new salary is stated vaguely as between “£80,000 to £160,000”. Davidson was unable to communicate exactly how much the Communications job is worth as she’s away from work until March 31."
