New Eating and Drinking Guide Mirrors Flourishing Food Scene
28/04/2008
In welcoming over 100 new restaurants, bistros, cafés and bars to the pages of its eating and drinking guide, the Edinburgh and Glasgow events magazine, The List, has declared the restaurant scene in Scotland to be stronger than ever before.
The 15th edition of The List’s eating and drinking guide also includes details of its award winners, including the readers’ award for Glasgow going to Guy’s and the corresponding award for Edinburgh headed for Urban Angel.
Says Donald Reid, the guide’s editor: “The number of new openings included this year is proof that Edinburgh and Glasgow have two of the most dynamic dining scenes outside London.
“The majority of the arrivals are independents, which gives them a local identity and tunes in with the growing political focus on taking a fresh look at all angles of the food culture in Scotland, and the importance of being more aware of the food we have around us. Restaurants are increasingly recognising the value of local, seasonal and identifiable food.”
The award winners:
Newcomer (originality and commitment) – THE DOGS, Edinburgh
Newcomer (inventive higher-end dining) – WEDGWOOD THE RESTAURANT, Edinburgh
Newcomer (affordability and innovation) – NANAKUSA, Glasgow
Newcomer (for destination and elegance) – TWO FAT LADIES @ THE BUTTERY, Glasgow
Readers’ Award, Glasgow – GUY’S
Readers’ Award, Edinburgh – URBAN ANGEL
Judges’ Special Award – ANDY LANE of Loch Fyne Oysters
