Record Finds SPL Not for Turning

07/05/2008
Not the best day at the office for the sports desk of the Daily Record, yesterday. And it wasn’t just getting wrong that fixtures were being rearranged to assist Rangers’ congested playing schedule, including the UEFA Cup final, a week today.

‘SPL do U-turn to Help Gers’, declared a puff on page one; ‘SPL Set to Cave in and Extend Season’, splashed the back. That's not what the Scottish Premier League football authorities had decided at all.

Oops. And to the paper’s rivals who then lifted the story (here).

But it didn’t stop there. Also on the back page was a story about Rangers’ UEFA Cup opponents: ‘Zenit Final Sell Out’ (here), saying Rangers could expect no more tickets, from the
Zenit allocation, as the Russian club was 'on course' to sell its share.

That’ll be the precise opposite to the Rangers official website yesterday morning announcing: 'Extra Zenit Tickets Available' (here).
