Scotland Day Set for Cannes Festival
15/05/2008
The Cannes film festival has just begun and, for the Scottish film industry, its highlight is likely to be on Tuesday, with a marketing push aimed at, among other, filmmakers who might use the country as a location.
‘Scotland Day’ will see Scottish Screen promoting the country’s talent, films, businesses and locations to the world's film industry.
At 11am, a panel discussion on producing a film in Scotland will include Rob Merilees, from Infinity Films, Canada, the producer on Stone of Destiny; Nigel Thomas from Matador Films, in London, producer of Book of Blood; Andrew Orr from Artist Independent Films, also in London, producer of New Town Killers; and Anna Duffield from Glasgow-based Sigma Films, producer of Rounding Up Donkeys (working title).
An hour later, a reception is expected to be attended by actress, Tilda Swinton; director, Paul McGuigan; actor, Dougray Scott; and composer, Craig Armstrong.
There will also be a couple of screenings, of Stone of Destiny and Summer.
Written and directed by Charles Martin Smith, and starring Charlie Cox, Kate Mara, Billy Boyd and Robert Carlyle, Stone of Destiny is based on the audacious, true-life attempt by Ian Hamilton, a dedicated nationalist, to bring the Stone of Scone back to Scotland.
Written by Hugh Ellis and directed by Kenny Glenaan, Summer also stars Robert Carlyle, who plays Shaun, who, says Scottish Screen, “reflects back on one gilded summer of love, sex and loyalty that marked the end of his innocence”.

- "Alex Salmond has just said the existing stone is a fake. That's as may be...but I delivered a stone to the north of Scotland in 1979 for the Scottish Republican Army. I've just completed a book about it and am looking for a publisher."
