Marketing 'Works' for Strathclyde Students
03/07/2008
It wasn’t quite tens of thousands of pounds, but a simple, £2000 which two groups of marketing students shared while taking part in their university’s own version of Dragons’ Den.
The challenge, at Strathclyde University, was to have various teams of its marketing students pitch ideas to a group of business people, in the hope of honing their marketing skills as well as securing one of two, £1000 prizes.
The students were drawn from the university’s MSc in Marketing and MSc in International Marketing courses.
MSc in Marketing students delivered their marketing ideas to Blue Sky Experiences, Carbon Passport and 4TM, with practising marketers from Taylor McKenzie, Smith & McLaurin and Cloudline PR judging the presentations.
Meanwhile, MSc in International Marketing students presented to Invatec, CenTradeX, SgurrEnergy and Strathclyde University’s International Graduate Office, with representatives from Price Waterhouse Cooper, Scottish Development International and Intrum Justitia comprising the judging panel.
The winners from the MSc in Marketing course were Sudipta Das, Fabian Fuchs, Susan MacRitchie, Anna Szafranska and Yu-Ming Ku, who pitched to Blue Sky Experiences.
In the MSc in International Marketing category, the winners were Rohit Bhatia, Matthew Castillo, Xiao Fang, Ching-Hui Huang and Akshay Seth, who presented to Strathclyde University’s International Graduate Office.
The prizes were put up by the university, and the competition was called ‘Marketing Works’.
