Scotsman Reports Itself
17/07/2008
Fair play to The Scotsman yesterday in its reporting of a damages pay-out following a claim of libel; it reported itself.
Taking up most of page nine (rather than tucked out of sight), the paper said that Robert Murat - described by The Scotsman as an “unofficial suspect” in the case of the missing toddler, Madeleine McCann - is to receive damages of more than half a million pounds, following stories about him in eleven newspapers.
His libel case was due to be heard today, but a settlement was agreed on Monday.
And, reported The Scotsman, among the newspapers cited by lawyers for Mr Murat, was itself.
