17/07/2008
Mixed messages about advertising spend? Two days ago, allmediascotland.com was reporting a drop in marketing expenditure, according to the Bellwether report (here). But a report released yesterday, about direct marketing, is much more upbeat.
Says the Direct Marketing Association, the spend on direct marketing campaigns throughout the UK increased last year by 9.8 per cent, to £18 billion.
And according to the DMA’s Economic Impact of the Direct Marketing Industry, employment generated by the direct marketing industry in the UK has also grown by 14 per cent since two years ago to represent 3.4 per cent of total employment or just over a million people.
And specifically within the digital sector, email marketing continued to thrive – growing by 19 per cent last year, to £1.1 billion in 2007.
