Allmediascotland’s golfer to watch at the Open golf championship, Barry Hume, made a more than respectable start during yesterday’s first round.

Playing during the worst of the day’s poor weather, he carded a six over par, 76 - three shots better than world number two, Phil Mickelson; three behind fellow Scot, Colin Montgomerie; and seven behind the overnight best score of one under par.

Spike is backing Hume for no other reason that he’s the boyfriend of Lennox Herald reporter, Laura McLachlan.

Sounds like a good enough reason.
