Border TV Campaign Stands Out in Public Service Broadcasting Review

18/07/2008
Among the 270 formal responses to a review of public service broadcasting, one comprised 13,000 individually-signed postcards objecting to plans by ITV to merge the news operation at Border TV with that of neighbouring Tyne Tees.

The responses were invited by the broadcasting regulators as it seeks to form a position on the future of public service broadcasting.

Ofcom is required to conduct a PSB review every five years and this is its second such review.

Says Ofcom: “A number of key themes emerged from the responses....[including] long-term models for delivery of public service content; prospects for children's programming; options for Channel 4, ITV, five and Teletext.”

It is expected Ofcom will publish its views on PSB, on the back of the responses, in the autumn.
