Scottish Press Squad Smallest Ever for Games?
31/07/2008
The Scottish contingent within the British Olympic squad - preparing for the games in Beijing, starting a week tomorrow - may be pretty substantial, but they are likely to be supported by the smallest squad of Scottish newspaper journalists, ever.
allmediascotland.com understands it could be as low as four, with The Herald and Sunday Herald each sending one - Doug Gillon and Alan Campbell, the Daily Record being represented by Gary Ralston and Scotland on Sunday’s Moira Gordon also submitting stories to The Scotsman.
Freelance sportswriter, Richard Moore, is also believed to be heading to China. And so too are Mike Haggerty and Andi Robertson.
Last time around, in Athens, The Scotsman had its own, separate journalist, Stuart Bathgate, while Gordon again filed for SoS.
These are clearly cash-strapped times. Or in the case of The Scotsman and SoS, maybe an experiment as to the viability of the papers joining forces behind the scenes, aka a ‘seven day operation’?
