Training on Offer at Community Radio Station

10/10/2006
Free training in radio broadcasting is to be offered by one of the newest radio stations in Scotland. Community radio station, Leith FM, is offering the training to local people aged 18 and over, as part of social inclusion plans the station has for the area.
The Edinburgh-based station is able to offer the training thanks to £3000 of funding from the Leith Community Regeneration Fund.
The money will be used to deliver two, eight-week blocks of training for up to 24 people.
Next Monday, local people can find out more by attending an introduction to the training courses on offer, being hosted at the Holiday Inn Express hotel at Ocean Terminal in Leith. Speaking will be Leith FM chair, Mike Stevenson, who runs a communications agency in Leith, Design Links.
Says Stevenson: “The courses are open to everyone who has the interest and commitment. You could be on the Jobseeker's Allowance scheme, you could be retired, a young person with an interest in radio work, a young homeless person or you could be someone from a minority population looking to create local radio - or a combination of any of these groups or more.
Above all, the course is about having fun and being creative, two elements which go together.”
It is intended that the training will be accredited to at least Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) level 2.
