Pity the poor hack on The Observer’s property desk asked to do a feature on people buying houses far from the ‘rat race’.

He hits the phones to Scotland and Wales in the hope getting some good quotes to add to the house prices details he’s cobbled off the internet.

So far, so Sunday supplement. But nobody reckoned on the language barrier. Our reporter, Alexander Garrett, dutifully scribbles down solicitor, Iain Robb‘s remarks saying that most of the folk who move to remoter parts from the big cities are “completely scummered with life”.

Clype reckons Robb will be scunnered that his words should be so mangled.
