BEGINS pressgazette.co.uk: “The editor and deputy editor of the Paisley Daily Express, Scotland’s smallest daily newspaper, have taken voluntary redundancy.

“John Hutcheson is to be replaced as editor of the title, which recorded an average circulation of 5,965 in the second half of 2014 (down 12 per cent), by Cheryl McEvoy.

“McEvoy, who will take over the Paisley title on 3 August, is currently editor of the Ayrshire Post.”

A TWITTER hashtag, celebrating Edinburgh and launched by the city’s marketing body, is said to have been among the most popular used last week.

Says an announcement on behalf of Marketing Edinburgh: “Over 5,000 individual posts used the hashtag, #ThisisEdinburgh24, between 6am on Wednesday 22 July and 6am the following morning, generating a reach of over 1.3million and 9.5million impressions.

“The hashtag was the city’s number one trending topic for the majority of the day, also reaching number three in the UK’s top trending lists.”

BEGINS an announcement from STV: “STV Edinburgh and STV Glasgow will be joining forces to bring the best of the festival into homes across the Central Belt of Scotland as they commence broadcasting the Edinburgh Festival 2015 programme live from Akva bar and cafe from Wednesday 5th August.

“The show will see hosts Ewen Cameron and Hayley Matthews from STV Edinburgh’s flagship programme The Fountainbridge Show team up with STV Glasgow’s David Farrell and Jennifer Reoch to bring the best international talent and local acts to the screen over the course of the festival.”

THE Falkirk Herald newspaper reports: “The first Falkirk Herald journalist to write a column specifically for its women readers has died.

“Betty Simpson was 93, but known and loved by thousands as Jean Graham who penned her ‘Between Ourselves’ articles for Scotland’s top selling weekly between 1957 and 1973.”

“The rotating computerised posters promoting the English squad’s appearance at a star-studded event in London had appeared to much bemusement in recent days.”
