Your Noon Briefing: ‘Power 100s’, Cat Cochrane, etc

THE head of newspapers publisher, Trinity Mirror’s Scottish operation has been named among the top 100 power brokers in Scotland.

Allan Rennie – at Media Scotland, which publishes, among other titles, the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail – has been placed at No.50 in The Herald’s ‘Scotland’s Power [100]’, which accompanied yesterday’s edition of the paper.

Elsewhere, Pete Cashmere – the person behind the tech, digital media, etc website, Mashable, was placed at No.26, while BBC Scotland director, Ken MacQuarrie, was at No. 59.

Also on the list: STV boss, Rob Woodward (No.87), Wings Over Scotland blogger, Stuart Campbell (No.80) and food journalist and campaigner, Joanna Blythman (No.99).

AND in the annual Media 100, published by The Guardian (again, yesterday), there was representation from Scots, Adam Crozier (head of ITV, No.16), Armando Iannucci (writer, director, producer, No.39), Laura Kuenssberg (BBC political editor, No.54) and Steven Moffat (writer and exec producer, No.76).

THE current Scottish Student Journalist of the Year has been named a winner at UK-wide awards run by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

Cat Cochrane has taken the Student Feature title at the NCTJ Excellence Awards – as reported, here, by pressgazette.co.uk.

AN advert featuring Glasgow has been chosen Ad of the Week by The Drum media and marketing magazine.

Says the mag – which is UK-wide and headquartered in Glasgow: “Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s (GCMB) colourful Christmas spot is our ad of the week.

“This animation, produced by Maguires, is based on a series of intricate, hand-drawn illustrations of the city’s landmarks and icons – including George Square and the Style Mile – by renowned Glasgow artist, Adrian McMurchie.

“The film was brought to life by Glaswegian Bafta-winning visual artist James Houston.”
