Media Movers: Stewart Weir, Rebecca Wearn, etc

WELCOME to Media Movers – tracking appointments, retirements, etc among Scotland’s busy media community.

AND, firstly, congratulations to Stewart Weir, who begins today as head of sport at The Herald, Evening Times, Sunday Herald and The National.

The former chief sports writer for the Scottish Mirror newspaper – from 1997 until 2000 (and columnist until 2009) is a former reporter on the Evening Times, during the 1990s.

For a decade, he worked with now no longer Stirling-based sports management group, 110sport, as editor-in-chief, then head of media and communications.

More recently, he was deputy editor for publications and programmes for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and was weekend editor during the World Cup in 2014 for the international edition of Goal website.

On his new role, Weir said: “This will be a big challenge but I’m delighted and fortunate to have been given this opportunity.”

OF course, it has been so long since the last Media Movers on allmediascotland.com, that it’s only now we are able to congratulate Herald & Times Group editor, Magnus Llewellin, named in May – including here, in Press Gazette – as the new Scotland editor of The Times.

AND, among various other recent appointments worth toasting: Rebecca Wearn is
now a senior broadcast journalist for BBC Scotland newsgathering. She was
previously senior producer on BBC Breakfast.
