New Scottish/Irish film fest launching

A FILM festival celebrating the work of young filmmakers from both Scotland and Ireland is to be hosted in Edinburgh at the end of the month.

REEL is being billed as the first ever Scottish/Irish film festival and its focus on young filmmakers is alongside the screening of movies from both countries.

Running from the 28th to November 9, at the Filmhouse cinema, the programme will, says the organisers, “showcase the best of recent Scottish and Irish productions: from teenage filmmakers to student productions, independently-produced short films, low budget feature and high-profile feel-good movies. Themes explored include storytelling, poetry and literature in film, traveller culture and immigration”.

On the bill are Night People, The Rocket Post, Solid Air and The Flying Scotsman, plus personal appearances from acclaimed filmmaker,s Damien O’Donnell, Adrian Meade, Bernard McLaverty, Perry Ogden, May Miles Thomas and Douglas MacKinnon.

Organisers also say the festival is “part of a sustained move by the Consulate of Ireland to step up links with Scotland, given the talent in the respective film industries and unique cultural links”.
