Last King of Scotland receives Oscar nomination

SCOT, Kevin Macdonald’s first feature film as a director, Last King of Scotland, was among the Oscar nominations announced yesterday.

The biopic of former Uganda’s Idi Amin, was chosen in the Best Actor category, for the performance of Forest Whitaker. The Oscar ceremony takes place on the 25th of next month. Whitaker is up against Leonardo DiCaprio (Blood Diamond), Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson), Peter O’Toole (Venus) and Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness).

Other nominations highlights include The Queen attracting six nominations: Best Motion Picture, Best Actress (for Helen Mirren), Best Director (for Stephen Fears), Best Original Score and Best Costume Design. A lot of The Queen was filmed in Scotland.

And Scottish producer and Scottish Screen Board member, Iain Smith, also saw his film, Children of Men, nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
