Film showcase to shine on Leith

THE cream of independent Scottish cinema is to be showcased at a summer festival this year.

FilmLive Saturdays is being held as part of the ten-day Leith Festival, in Edinburgh, taking place in June. It promoses to provide an opportunity for filmmakers and audience to mix, watch some films, and participate in interactive sessions and filmmaking workshops.

FilmLive Saturdays is being organised by Filmlive.org, which describes itself as ‘Scotland’s independent film network’, a non-profit organisation launched in October last year and which now boasts 350 members.

The network provides a platform and resources to support new and emerging film talent.

Said FilmLive.org founder, Ben McNeill: “The FilmLive project was set up to encourage filmmaking in Scotland and prove that we have great potential as a nation for creating a thriving film industry.”

Added John Paul McGroarty, artistic director of Leith Festival: “We are delighted to be collaborating with FilmLive on an ongoing basis for the FilmLive Saturdays, an integral part of our Film@LeithFestival programme. FilmLive is an excellent new initiative with an important role to play in supporting and stimulating independent filmmaking, increased audiences and new venues in Scotland.”

FilmLive Saturdays will be taking place on June 2 and 9, at Granary on the Shore.
