School leaver tasked to access all areas of the internet

MAYBE there’s a lesson here for the old hacks at allmediascotland.com: if you want to get the best out of the internet, employ a young person.

Well, that’s certainly what the producers of the first-ever Gaelic feature film have done, to their obvious delight.

Says a media release issued yesterday, Skye-based Young Films has employed “web-aware school leaver, Mairead Martin, to use her blogging skills to promote… Seachd: The Inaccessible Pinnacle”.

The movie has just enjoyed its world premiere, at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Continues its producer, Chris Young: “We set out to find a young person with a passion for Gaelic, outstanding IT skills and an enthusiasm for the creative industries and found exactly who
we were looking for right here on Skye.

“Mairead’s input is vital to the ongoing success of Seachd, given the rapid rise in interactive media and internet marketing. It is crucial for us to embrace the new technology, not only in our film-making but for the long-term future of Young Films.”

Adds the media release: “Although the main website for Seachd is attracting large numbers of hits, the film’s regular blog is growing increasingly important. Social network sites such as MySpace have been used to maximum effective, with interactive opportunities such as ‘design your own poster’ and ‘edit your own scene’ proving popular.”
