Lewis steps down from Northsound, the radio station he founded 28 years ago

THE founder of the Aberdeen-based radio station, Northsound, is stepping down after 28 years with it.

Andrew Lewis founded Northsound in 1981, becoming chair soon afterwards.

The station – now owned by Bauer Media, which also owns Radios Clyde, Forth and Tay – enjoys a 46 per cent share of its available audience, online, on FM and on AM.

Says Dee Ford, Group MD, Radio at Bauer Media: “Andrew Lewis is one of Scotland’s leading businessmen. His depth of broadcasting knowledge and invaluable insight greatly contributed to our current number one position in the market.

“Through all the twists and turns of the past 28 years he has always provided wise counsel and I am personally delighted that Andrew has graciously offered to remain available to us in an informal capacity.

“His legacy will live on through the multi-award winning stations he founded.”
