Scots duo unveil outside broadcast truck for hire

IN the belief that there is now a shortage of trucks in Scotland offering outside broadcast facilities – including live mixing from various events, such as football matches and music festivals – two Scots entgineers have invested an estimated £100,000 in building their own OB truck, now available for hire.

Built using the vehicle chassis and some of the interior of a special facilities truck (not as geared up as an OB one) once operated by BBC Resources, in London, Blairgowrie-based broadcast engineer, Richard Norrie, and Falkirk-based production engineer, Ian Abbey, are seeking to capture a market in Scotland that is mostly served by trucks hired from down south.

Norrie’s OB credits include Big Brother (as senior engineer) and Formula One motor racing.

He told allmediascotland.com: “We believe there is only one truck owned and operated in Scotland and it belongs to the BBC. STV recently closed its OB unit and we know of lots of trucks being hired from England. We offer five camera, full vision, live mixing.”

Hire prices are calculated depending on the number of cameras (and crew) that are required. The company is called Media Traffic.
