Wanted: pilot programme proposals

AN appeal has gone out for children’s TV proposals to be broadcast as pilots on BBC Scotland with the hope they become full commissions.

Up for grabs – as part of BBC Scotland’s newly-launched Wee Gems initiative – are two, 15-minute pilots, scheduled for the hugely 4.35pm slot on CBBC1. And while experienced writers, directors and producers are invited to apply, so too are newcomers.

BBC Scotland’s recent children’s TV credits include Raven, Balamory and Tales from the Edge.

Sara Harkins, head of Drama Development for Children’s and Teens, explains: “We’re looking for fantastic scripts that are original, engaging, funny and exciting.”

The pilots must be produced in Scotland with a commitment to employing Scotland-based crews.

Wee Gems is a successor to the Tartan Smalls scheme, which BBC Scotland ran in conjuction with Scottish Screen, and which, similarly, sought to develop new programming for young people.

Applications must be received by the 22nd of next month and the two winning entries will be announced in November.
