Hour-long live debate highlight of STV’s General Election build-up coverage

SCOTTISH broadcaster, STV, has revealed that the highlight of its coverage of the General Election build-up is to be a live, hour-long debate involving leading figures from Scotland’s four main political parties.

The debate – chaired by news anchor, John MacKay – is being broadcast a fortnight today, at 9pm.

Throughout the campaign, STV will be also broadcasting a series of election face-to-face programmes hosted by political editor, Bernard Ponsonby. They are scheduled for Sunday April 18 (10.35pm), Monday April 19 (10.40pm), Sunday April 25 (10.35pm) and Monday April 26 (10.40pm).

Says STV: “Each day there will also be substantial coverage and analysis of the campaign on daily news programmes, STV News at Six. [Our] dedicated website – www.stv.tv/election – will feature detailed profiles of constituencies, candidates and an issue-by-issue guide. Our teams of reporters will be blogging on the road and the website will feature indispensable daily guides to the campaign.”

It continues: “After the polls close on May 6, STV will broadcast its biggest ever election night programme – Election 2010 in Scotland. There will be 12 outside broadcast units across Scotland, covering more than half of the Scottish declarations live. Working with ITN, we will bring viewers all the key action from other parts of the UK, while providing the fastest results service on television. The programme will be streamed live on the STV website, with real-time results, statistics and analysis.”
