Dundee to host Last Night of Proms concert

FOR the first time, Dundee is to host the Scottish leg of the last night of the classical music season, the BBC Proms.

The city’s Caird Hall will see the BBC’s Scottish Symphony Orchestra take part in an UK-wide programme involving performances – broadcast live, on television – from all around the UK, as well as the BBC Proms’ ‘home’ of the Royal Albert Hall, in London.

The Last Night of the Proms is taking place on September 11.

The orchestra, conducted by Garry Walker, will be joined by a number of international guest performers who will be announced at a later date.

Tickets for the event are free of charge.

Says the BBC: “To bring the real bohemian spirit of the Proms to Dundee, there will be a choice of standing ‘promenade’ tickets in the stalls area, with a limited number of seated tickets in the balcony. The Caird Hall is an ideal choice for the event due to its large size and world famous acoustic. The combination of this special hall with the renowned exuberance of the Scottish ‘Last Night’ audience will make for a very special evening of music making. For audiences who can’t make it to Dundee, BBC Scotland coverage will of course capture the excitement of the night on television, radio and online.”

Tickets will be available from July 1, via www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours
