The Scottish Digital Network: Blair Jenkins speaks

‘MAPPING Futures for News’ had been scheduled to be a two-day event, in April, hosted by the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Strathclyde. But then it had to be cancelled because of the flights disruption caused by the eruption of the Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajökull.

However, one keynote speech was salvaged and it was delivered last night by Blair Jenkins, a former head of news and current affairs at BBC Scotland, and chair of the Scottish Broadcasting Commission, set up three years ago by the Scottish Government and which recommended, a year later, the setting up of a Scottish Digital Network, a digital TV channel dedicated to high-quality Scottish content, along with a big online presence.
