STV chosen among expected content contributors to YouView

A NEW TV service that is connected to via the internet and scheduled to launch next year has announced that Glasgow-based broadcasters, STV, are to be among those expected to provide content.

YouView – which is being backed by the BBC, ITV, BT, Channel 4, TalkTalk, Arqiva and Channel 5 and will offer, among other things, a programmes catch-up service, internet interactivity and ‘personal video recording’ – has decided it is to work with 29 organisations – including STV – “to shape and test the processes for making content available via the platform”.

The 29 were chosen from “hundreds [of] organisations involved in content provision [who had registered their interest in engaging with YouView as the platform develops”.

The content providers working with YouView include Blinkbox, Blinkx, BSkyB, Film4oD, Golant Media Ventures, Guardian News & Media, IndieMoviesOnline, LOVEFiLM, Pushbutton, Radioplayer, Stream UK, Travel Channel and UTV, as well as STV.

Says a statement issued by YouView: “All content providers – including those that form its advisory group -will later this year, be invited by YouView to confirm their formal intention to making content available via the platform.”

It quotes Alistair Brown, chief technology and platforms officer at STV, saying: “We are delighted to be engaging with YouView, alongside leading UK content providers. We are confident that the development of this platform will be a great fit for our ‘STV Anywhere’ strategy, which strives to make STV content available across all platforms, whenever and wherever our audience wants it.”
