Joy for Scots six in Sony Radio Awards shortlist

AT least half a dozen Scots broadcasters, programmes and radio stations feature in the nominations just announced for this year’s Sony Radio Academy awards – the most prestigious radio awards competition in the UK.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on May 9. The Scottish nominations include:

* Station of the Year (up to 300,000 listeners) – Central FM (103.1 FM);

* Best specialist music programme – Another Country, BBC Radio Scotland;

* Best single promo/commercial – MFR Christmas Toy Appeal 2010 – Moray Firth Radio (MFR);

* Best drama – In for a Penny – Tempest Productions for BBC Radio Scotland

* Best live event coverage – 102.5 Clyde 1 at T in The Park: Radio Clyde for Clyde 1; and

Edinburgh-born broadcaster, Nicky Campbell, features in two categories for his co-hosting of 5 Live Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live – including breakfast show of the year (10 million listeners plus), where there is also a nomination for fellow Scot, Alan Brazil, for his breakfast sports show on talkSPORT.
