Community radio station to launch its first CD tonight

A COMMUNITY radio station is releasing its first CD – an album devoted to local music.

Glasgow’s Sunny Govan Radio is promoting the ‘Turn it Up Glasgow’ CD at a launch party tonight, which is expected to include live performances from upcoming bands, R-Kive and No Fxd Abode, among others, as well as more familiar Glaswegian singers such as former Scheme member, Denny Oliver.

In a statement issued by the station, boss, Heather McMillan, is quoted, as saying: “We’re really excited about the range of talent and genre on the Turn it Up Glasgow CD.

“[Tonight], there might even be a couple of extra surprises for the station’s fans.”

The statement also quotes the album’s producer, Said Steg G, saying: “The platforms for local music are diminishing in Scotland and it’s great to see an outlet for local grassroots bands who don’t always have the opportunity to have their music heard.”

Turn it Up Glasgow costs £6.99 and will also be available from Oxfam charity shops across Glasgow.

Tickets cost £5 and can be booked in advance by phoning the station on 0141 445 3741 or bought at the door on the night: at Stairway Glasgow on Union Street, from 7.30pm.
