Mentorn Scotland makes two key appointments

THE independent TV production company that makes the BBC’s debate show, Question Time, from Glasgow, has appointed a new head for its Scottish operation.

Chris Kelly has been promoted from executive producer at the Scottish divison of Mentorn. He is a former head of fellow production company, Lion Scotland.

His appointment was joined by that of Robin Gray, as new head of development, joining from the Scottish division of another ‘indie’, Objective.

Says a media release from Mentorn: “The announcement signals a period of expansion for the Mentorn Scotland base which celebrates its tenth year and is currently responsible for BBC One series, Question Time, The Big Questions and Cowboy Trap. Production of BBC One series Motorway Cops and Traffic Cops, both made by Mentorn Media sister company, Folio, is also made from Mentorn Scotland.”

Mentorn Media’s chief executive, John Willis, is quoted, as saying: “I’m delighted that we have attracted two such talented people to senior jobs in Scotland. They both have extensive knowledge of the Scottish industry and their appointment heralds our intention to rapidly grow our expanding Scottish base. After ten successful years in Glasgow, Mentorn is now building for the next ten.”

Kelly – who joined Mentorn Media two years ago – includes Days That Shook The World and Castaway 2000 among his producer credits. He has been an executive producer at Lion Television, Ricochet and Twofour with production credits including Extreme Dreams, Unbreakable, Dealing With Dickinson and The Estate We’re In.

Gray moves from his position as development producer at Objective Scotland and includes producer credits on US hit for E4, Tool Academy, among his credits. He was formerly a factual and entertainment producer at STV Productions, developing and pitching Antiques Road Trip for BBC Two which is now in its third series.

He has also worked on Scotland’s Greatest Team with Lorraine Kelly and John Gordon Sinclair, The Culture Show for BBC Two and produced Frankie Boyle’s End of the World Show for BBC Scotland four years ago. Robin was associate producer for Mentorn Scotland’s BBC One Scotland series, The Last Word with Nicky Campbell, seven years ago.
