A CELEBRATION of the 60th birthday of television in Scotland is being screened tomorrow evening and, helping tee it up, the Scottish Daily Mail today asks various well-known Scots to pick their favourite Scots TV programme.
Watching Ourselves is being presented by actor, comedian and writer, Greg Hemphill, and the Mail’s feature, by Lucy Osborne and Victoria Allen, is headed: ’60 years of big talent on the small screen’.
The Scots listed and their favourite programmes – from across both the BBC and STV (which began broadcasting in 1957) – are as follows:
Kaye Adams – Scottish Women, STV
Barbara Dickson – Francie and Josie, STV
Cat Cubie – Chewin’ the Fat, BBC (which Hemphill appears in and has co-writing credits)
Ted Brocklebank – A Scots Quair, BBC
Fiona Hyslop – Tutti Frutti, BBC
Ruth Davidson – Taggart, STV
Tony Roper – Still Game, BBC (another Hemphill co-writing and appearances hit)
Craig Brown – Jig Time, STV and BBC
Marti Pellow – Garnock Way, STV
Bernard Gallagher – Scotsport, STV
John Archer (producer of Watching Ourselves) – Looking after Jo Jo, BBC
