Applications being sought for TV ‘runners’ scheme

APPLICATIONS are being sought for a scheme to help people break into television production – by starting off as ‘runners’.

Four ‘Hit the Ground’ training events are being staged in Scotland, with the aim of recruiting ten people to take part in week-long paid internships as a runner on a drama production.

A Hit of Ground event is scheduled for Friday, in Stornoway.

Behind the initiative is the Edinburgh-based Screen Academy Scotland.

Says a media release issued by one of the SAS partners, Edinburgh Napier University: “The programme follows a series of Hit the Ground Running courses across Scotland; an established, industry-recognised training course which provides new entrants with an overview of productions as well as giving them advice and information on how to proceed in their careers as new crew professionals and to get their first job as a runner.”
