The Media in Figures: The ‘performance’ of BBC channels and services

THE BBC spent 1.13 billion on BBC One during the financial year 2012/13 and £3.8 million on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal over the same period, according to statistics released yesterday.

Says the BBC annual report, the time spent by the average viewer of BBC One each week was 7hrs 51mins. Meanwhile, for BBC Radio nan Gàidheal sister station, BBC Radio Scotland, the average time spent by the average listing each week was 7hrs 6mins.

The ‘performance’ of various BBC channels and services during 2012/13 read as follows:

* BBC One Spend £1.129.2 million (£1,041.1 million during 2011/12); Reach (UK population who use the service each week) 77.6 per cent (78.8 per cent during 2011/12); Time (length of time the average viewer spent each week with the channel) 7hrs 51mins (7hrs 20mins during 2011/12); Appreciation Index (aggregate of how people rated individual programmes, as a number of out 100) 82.6 (82.2 during 2011/12); Cost per hour per user 6.2p (6.1p during 2011/2012)

* BBC TWO Spend £404.8 million (£416.6 million during 2011/12); Reach (UK population who use the service each week) 50.9 per cent (54.3 per cent during 2011/12); Time (length of time the average viewer spent each week with the channel) 3hrs 15mins (3hrs 23mins during 2011/12); Appreciation Index (aggregate of how people rated individual programmes, as a number of out 100) 84.2 (83.5 during 2011/12); Cost per hour per user 8.3p (7.8p during 2011/2012)
