England-Scotland game a result for STV

AN estimated total audience of 1.8 million people watched on TV the friendly international men’s football match last night between England and Scotland, which ended in a 3-2 victory for the hosts but plaudits for Scotland.

Says broadcasters, STV, it was the most-watched STV programme this year.

A STV media release continues: “The game attracted an average audience of nearly 1.2 million, outperforming top entertainment shows including Britain’s Got Talent, and was one of the top ten best watched football matches on STV over the last ten years.

“With a 58 per cent audience share in Scotland, STV beat the network ratings by over 20 share points.

“STV’s coverage was presented by Raman Bhardwaj live from Wembley Stadium with special guests Paul Lambert and Terry Butcher and commentary from Derek Rae and Alan Brazil.”

Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, is quoted, as saying: “Our sports team did a fantastic job bringing STV viewers dedicated coverage of last night’s game and it’s great to see that so many people tuned in to watch a thrilling match – even though we all hoped for a better result.”
