The Media in Figures: Time spent on tablets, etc versus watching television

UK consumers are expected to spend, for the first time ever, more time ‘consuming media’ on their desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones than watching television – according to research.

Says digital media analysts, eMarketer: “The average UK adult will spend more than 8.5 hours each day consuming media in 2014. Of that total, 3 hours and 41 minutes will be spent online, on non-voice mobile activities or with other digital media… compared with 3 hours and 15 minutes watching television.”

The research for 2014 reads as follows:

Digital: 3 hours and 41 minutes (and includes desktop, tablet, etc)

TV: 3 hours and 15 minutes

Radio: 1 hour and 23 minutes

Print (offline reading only): 20 minutes

Note:┬áThe totals reflect simultaneous media consumption – for example, if someone uses a mobile device for one hour while watching television, it counts as one hour for each activity.
