UK consumers are expected to spend, for the first time ever, more time ‘consuming media’ on their desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones than watching television – according to research.
Says digital media analysts, eMarketer: “The average UK adult will spend more than 8.5 hours each day consuming media in 2014. Of that total, 3 hours and 41 minutes will be spent online, on non-voice mobile activities or with other digital media… compared with 3 hours and 15 minutes watching television.”
The research for 2014 reads as follows:
Digital: 3 hours and 41 minutes (and includes desktop, tablet, etc)
TV: 3 hours and 15 minutes
Radio: 1 hour and 23 minutes
Print (offline reading only): 20 minutes
Note: The totals reflect simultaneous media consumption – for example, if someone uses a mobile device for one hour while watching television, it counts as one hour for each activity.
