Your Noon Briefing: Scottish Creative Awards shortlist, search begins for ‘best small radio station’, etc

THE best of Scotland’s advertising and creative talent is being celebrated in an annual media awards competition which has just announced its shortlist.

The Scottish Creative Awards is run by the Glasgow-based media and marketing magazine, The Drum.

Missing from the list are four recently-created categories to recognise the work of advertising departments in newspapers. Set up in association with the Scottish Newspaper Society (as reported here on allmediascotland), the categories have a deadline for entries of the 22nd of this month.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow on October 9.

A DEADLINE of the 23rd of next month has been set for entries in a media awards competition celebrating the UK’s best ‘small radio stations’.

The annual Radio Academy Awards is calling for entries from stations with a transmission area of under 300,000 adults.

It is for its ‘nations and regions’ award, the Scots winner of which these last couple of years has been Moray Firth Radio.

ALMOST 50 different ‘street newspapers’ – such as The Big Issue magazine and operating to assist help people out of poverty – are expected to be represented today at a conference taking place in Glasgow.

The three-day event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the International Network of Street Papers, which is headquartered in Glasgow.

“John has been overseeing the output of Bauer’s four Yorkshire stations, 96.3 Radio Aire, 96.9 Viking FM, Hallam FM and Magic Yorkshire for less than a year, having moved from Radio Clyde in Glasgow where he was programme director.”

Owen Ryan, group content director, Bauer Place North of England and Scotland, is quoted, as saying: “John Dash has decided to leave the business to restart his successful PR and media business. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

BEGINS The Drum magazine: “The Edinburgh International Book Festival has worked with Tangent to create its new visual identity for 2014.

“This year marks the fifth year that the Festival – which this year runs until Monday 25 August – has worked with the Scottish design agency.”
