Your Noon Briefing: STV unveil plans for Edinburgh station, O’Hare takes Amnesty media prize, etc

A LOCAL TV station serving Edinburgh is to have what is being described as a ‘live magazine show’ as part of its core content.

In the same vein as its programming for its already-operating Glasgow local TV channel, broadcasters, STV, says, today: “STV Edinburgh will launch in early January 2015 with a magazine show broadcast live from the capital each weekday evening.

“The Fountainbridge Show will be presented nightly from the studio by former Heart and Real Radio breakfast show host, Ewen Cameron and broadcaster and presenter, Hayley Matthews.

“Ewen and Hayley will be joined on the live programme by roving reporters Zara Janjua and George Ward. The Fountainbridge News will air from 1830 – 1900 each evening, followed by The Fountainbridge Show from 1900 – 2030.”

STV Edinburgh is to be operated in association with Edinburgh Napier University, just as STV Glasgow is a collaboration involving Glasgow Caledonian University.

A JOURNALIST at the Daily Record has been named a winner at media awards run by the human rights organisation, Amnesty International.

Paul O’Hare took the Nations and Regions title for his series, Colombia: Caught in the Crossfire.

Now in its 23rd year, the awards – say the organisers – “recognise excellence in human rights reporting and acknowledge journalism’s significant contribution to public awareness and understanding of human rights issues”.

In a media announcement released by Amnesty International, O’Hare is quoted, as saying: “I’m absolutely delighted to win such a prestigious award and am grateful to Amnesty International for choosing my reports from amongst such strong competition. The long-standing conflict in Colombia continues to devastate lives and the plight of vulnerable citizens rightly deserves our urgent attention.

“I would like to thank the Scottish aid charity SCIAF who helped me in Colombia and whose work is helping to protect human and land rights every day. I would also like to thank my editors for giving me the time to go Colombia – it’s vital that the media continue to highlight human rights abuses to the public and those in power.”
