BEGINS pressgazette.co.uk: “At least 47 regional newspapers have closed since the start of 2012, according new research by Press Gazette.

“However, 38 local newspapers launched in the same period, making a net reduction of nine in two years. This compares to previous Press Gazette research showing that, between 2005 and the end of 2011, there were 242 local press closures and 70 launches.”

“The lengthy message, which appeared in a national Sunday newspaper [the Sunday Herald], described the Ibrox team as a totally different outfit after the oldco’s liquidation in 2012.”

BEGINS an announcement from BBC Scotland: “One of Scotland¹s most experienced TV executives, Gaynor Holmes, has been appointed as the head of drama for BBC Scotland.

“In a BBC career spanning 14 years, Gaynor’s extensive drama experience includes a string of major TV productions such as Monarch of the Glen, Waterloo Road, Ashes to Ashes, Garrow’s Law, The Field of Blood, Reichenbach Falls, Two Thousand Acres of Sky and River City, amongst many others.

“Aberdeenshire-born Gaynor started her television career in 1995 within the independent sector, working on TV dramas, films and documentaries while also producing several short films. Following this, she worked extensively within BBC Scotland’s drama department working on in-house and indie productions for both Scottish and UK audiences.

“Gaynor, who has been the acting head of drama, Scotland, since September 2014 following Christopher Aird’s appointment as one of the two heads of drama, London, will take up her new role immediately.”
