Your Noon Briefing: Kenny Farquharson, Arthur Montford, etc

THE deputy editor at The Scotsman Publications Ltd (The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and the Edinburgh Evening News) is to join the Scottish edition of The Times.

Kenny Farquharson – who is most closely associated with Scotland on Sunday – tweeted yesterday of his move.

He wrote (here): “Some news: I’m delighted to say I’m moving to The Times, as columnist and senior writer on the Scottish edition. Looking forward to it!”

BEGINS the STV website: “Scots sports broadcaster, [the late] Arthur Montford should be honoured in his home town with a street named after him, an MSP has urged.

“Montford, who passed away at the age of 85 in November 2014, worked in print and radio journalism as well as presenting STV’s Scotsport programme for 32 years before he retired in 1989.”

TWO stars of the US TV hit, Outlander, are reported, saying they hope the show will continue to be part-made in Scotland.

Writes Brian Ferguson, in The Scotsman: “And the pair [actors, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe] revealed they hope to keep making the show for years to come at its vast studio complex in Lanarkshire, as well as at the ‘terrific’ locations which have Scottish tourism chiefs already hailing Outlander as the industry’s next big thing.

“[Dumfriesshire-born] Heughan spoke of his pride that the show had led to the creation of Scotland’s first film studio – and hopes that Outlander will begin a flood of other major productions into the country.”

THE operations director at a Scottish PR consultancy has been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors Aberdeen and Grampian Regional Director of the Year award.

Sue Fay joined Bread’s PR consultancy two years ago and has 20 years’ experience in the communications industry.

THE general public is being invited to vote online for its favourite TV programme, from a shortlist of seven contenders, in a competition being run by the TV and radio listings magazine, the Radio Times.

The shortlist is Sherlock, Game of Thrones, EastEnders, The Great British Bake Off, The Missing, Strictly Come Dancing and Cilla.
