American journal namecheck for Scots journalist

IN a debate being conducted by the venerable journal, the American Journalism Review, a Scottish freelance journalist is the first among a list of commentators to be quoted.

The debate is about whether journalists who have conducted an interview by e-mail should declare as such.

And Scottish freelancer, Eamonn O’Neill, is among seven names offering an opinion.

O’Neill – a contracted investigative writer for The Herald magazine, a contributing editor for Esquire magazine and a journalism lecturer at Strathclyde and Napier universities – is of the opinion: Yes.

He did as much in an article that appeared in The Scotsman, as far back as 1996.

The article happened to be about US politicians campaigning via the internet.
