Keiran in contention for cartoon crown

A GLASGOW-based cartoonist is today winging his way to Florida, USA, to attend arguably the world’s most prestigious cartoon awards, where he has been nominated for a prize.

Kieran Meehan, whose work appears in the Evening Times newspaper, is believed to be the only nominee from Europe up for an award at the National Cartoonist Society Awards, aka the Reubens.

He’s up against two other nominations for the Newspaper Panel category at the event, taking place in Orlando, on Saturday evening.

As well as working for the Evening Times, he produces a strip – A Lawyer, a Doctor and a Cop – for a New York-based syndication outfit, King Features.

But it is his Evening Times work that has secured him the Reuben shortlisting.
