Moore the merrier with top book spot

A BOOK by a Scottish freelance sports journalist yesterday jumped straight to the top of Amazon’s sports books charts, on its first day of publication.

‘In Search of Robert Millar’, by Richard Moore and published by HarperCollins, is the first biography of cyclist, Robert Millar, the enigmatic Glaswegian who remains the only Briton ever to stand on the podium of the Tour de France.

Millar finished fourth in 1984, winning a stage and being crowned King of the Mountains.

However, since he retired, Millar has pretty much disappeared.

Moore idolised the young Millar and his book describes his ‘search’ for his hero, through previous encounters with Millar (when Moore was a racing cyclist himself), interviews with old school friends, cycling acquaintances, team mates and managers.

Thanks to positive reviews in the Daily Telegraph, The Herald, The Scotsman and a two-week serialisation in Scotland in Sunday, ‘In Search of Robert Millar’ was sitting very pretty at number 33 in Amazon’s overall sales charts for most of yesterday.
