End of era as sports editor announces retirement

IT’S the end of an era at The Scottish Sun, after it was announced that, following 19 years at the helm of sport, Steve Wolstencroft, has decided to retire.

To be succeeded by chief football writer, Iain King, Wolstencroft has presided over some of the biggest sports exclusives and best headlines in Scottish sport, earning, in the process, various nicknames, mainly to do with his commitment to hard work.

Sports sponsorship consultant, Alan Ferguson, for instance, is said to have dubbed him ‘The Eternal Flame’ – because he never goes out.

Says David Dinsmore, Scottish Sun editor: “Steve’s contribution to the success of the Scottish
Sun is second to none. Without his talent, drive and enthusiasm there is no doubt that we would not be where we are today.”

Of King’s promotion, he added: “[It] is richly deserved. He has proved time and again to be Scotland’s premier football writer. His new challenge is to take Scottish SunSport into a new and
exciting era.”

It’s not known yet who will take King’s post.
