THE conclusion of the Rugby World Cup is being met with a huge sigh of relief from at last one group of journalists: freelance sports writers.

Says one long-established writer in Scotland: “It’s been the worst month in years, because, once football and the rugby world cup had taken up their share of the sports pages, there was just so little space left for other sports. It’s the worst time for work I’ve had as a freelance.”
