Cashing in on banknotes story

IS the Scottish Daily Mail being a wee bit naughty, promoting a campaign not dissimilar to that of its mid-market rival, the Scottish Daily Express, to ensure that Scottish banknotes are accepted more readily across the UK?

The news that Scottish banknotes might be scrapped by the Chancellor of the Exchequer – thanks to proposed new Treasury regulations – has received major treatment across the Scottish media, including from the Scottish Daily Mail.

And, yesterday, staff reporter, Jonathan Brocklebank, was given almost a page to uncover ‘20 fascinating facts about the pounds in your pocket’.

Ah well, the good news for the Scottish Daily Express was that SNP MSP, Gil Paterson, has tabled a motion at Holyrood, praising its campaign, and calling for all politicians to give it their full backing.

Said Paterson: “I am totally supportive of the Scottish Daily Express campaign for equality of status for our notes across the UK, and to preserve our own notes in the face of this threat from the Treasury.”
